Elevator Mechanic

There are two main types of elevators: passenger and freight. Each elevator solution uses advanced mechanical systems to handle the substantial weight of the elevator car and its cargo. Additionally, they need control systems so passengers can easily operate the elevator, and safety devices to keep everything running smoothly.

There are many types of both commercial and residential elevators including: hydraulic elevators, traction elevators, wheelchair lifts, vertical platform lifts (VPL), inclined platform lifts (IPL), dumbwaiters, stair chairs and material lifts.

The scope of commercial elevators includes various requirements that include moving visitors, and freight, in office buildings, government offices, schools, medical buildings, and transportation hubs like airports and train stations. No matter what your specific need or application, we can help.

At Straight Up Elevator Co. we install, modernize, service, and maintain both commercial and residential elevators along with their control systems.

Elevator Maintenance

Elevator Services Agreement

We service elevator and lifts from all major manufacturers. There are different types of maintenance programs. It is important to understand the difference between Full Maintenance Agreements and Examination and Lubrication Agreements.

Basically, the greater level of risk you are willing to take, the lower the cost of the services.

At Straight Up Elevator Co. each elevator Service Agreement is customized to the specific needs of the client.

Here is some fundamental information to help you better understand the coverage provided in Service Agreements.

Watch for roll-over clauses and escalation fees!

Many elevator companies hide a roll-over clause with tricky wording in their contracts that hold you responsible for cancelling the contract when it comes to term. If you do not monitor it carefully, you will automatically be signed up for the same term, whether you want it or not, and the price may be completely unreasonable. Many companies try to lock you into lengthy contracts, (i.e. 5-years), which are not required. You should be able to negotiate a term and price that works for you.

Examination (Exam) and Lubrication Agreement

An Exam and Lubrication Agreement includes lubrication of the elevator equipment’s moving parts and minor adjustments on a regularly scheduled basis. Part repair or replacement and unscheduled service calls, also known as call backs, are not included in this type of Agreement. When there is a need for additional services or repairs, the mechanic reports this to the building owner or property manager who then schedules any repairs or services to be paid by the building owner. While this may be lower cost agreement up front, unforeseen repairs, replacements or call backs can be expensive depending on the age, condition, brand, usage, etc of the elevator. In addition, safety tests may be included in this type of Agreement as required by code.

Full Maintenance Agreement
A Full Maintenance Agreement provides all the same services as the Exam and Lubrication Agreement, with the addition of parts repair or replacement and call backs (during normal business hours). Parts that are worn due to normal wear and tear will be replaced at no additional cost to the building owner. Each Agreement will be tailored to each elevator and will specify which parts or repairs are included on the Agreement. Some exclusions may apply depending on the condition of the equipment prior to entering into an Agreement.

Elevator Installation Services

All of the equipment we install is NON-PROPRIETARY. Our client needs always come first.

We install complete commercial hydraulic and traction elevator packages from the following manufacturers, but not limited to: Vertical Express- Subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp, Canton/Motion Control Engineering (MCE), Alliance Elevator and Minnesota Elevator, Inc.

Our residential elevators and lifts come from Savaria, Garaventa and Inclinator.

Our dumbwaiters are manufactured by Elevation Innovation, Inc. and our material lifts are Custom Industrial Products and Wildeck.

We install Non-Proprietary controllers and components from all major manufactures.

Many elevator companies install elevators that run on proprietary computer-based software that require specialized tools that only the manufacturer itself can provide in order to perform maintenance on the elevator.

That type of scenario locks the customer into needing to sign a service contract with the manufacturing company, instead of being able to choose a maintenance provider that best suits them.

Though it may be advantageous, at times, to having the manufacturer of the equipment be the one to maintain it, generally you have to pay a premium for it and you have little to no choice in the matter. Each one of our of mechanics has worked for the larger manufacturers in the past and is very capable of working on all types of equipment. We are licensed in Oregon and California, combining that with our experience, means you receive professional and reliable services for all your elevator needs from Straight Up Elevator Company.
